The Way It Should Work

The political system, that is.

Last night a "legal" problem got resolved the way it should have been resolved in the first place. Eight of nine incumbent members of the Dover School Board in York County Pennsylvania were unseated. You may remember that this was the school board that prescribed the teaching of creation by "intelligent design" in the public schools over which it had jurisdiction. That prescription precipitated a law suit in the US District Court claiming that teaching "intelligent design" violated the Establishment of Religion Clause of the First Amendment.

After 40 days of a very public trial, the Court has the case under advisement.

Now it may not have to rule. The winning board members ran on the ticket of overturning the loser's decision to teach intelligent design. Once they are installed, they will change the policy, mooting the case.

Making for one very happy Federal Judge who can get back to his typical docket.
