Enough is Enough

In a recent oped in the Washington Post Dennis Ross made the following statement:

The United States must be no less clear on what Hamas has to do if it is to have a relationship with the international community. Hamas will want to have it both ways: having relations with the greater world while preserving its fundamental doctrine of rejection of Israel and support for violence. But no half-measures or vague formulations are acceptable. Hamas must recognize Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state, reject violence and be obliged to stop all acts of terrorism. The U.S. role must be to forge a consensus on these conditions and ensure they are not eroded over time. In the end, what happens at a de facto level between Israel and Hamas will be one thing. What the international community insists on must be another.

This is true. I saw a report on FOX recently which stated that much of the win for Hamas came about because Fatah was running more than one candidate for several offices and thus split their vote. Whatever the reason it makes in plain that there is a sickness in Palestinian society and they must either cure themselves or be abandoned. Call it tough love.

As we see the riots going on throughout the world because some cartoons were published let us imagine a world in which people like those rioting in the streets of Europe and the Middle East had access to a nuclear bomb.

For their own sake, let's hope we don't ever find out.

Hmmm, they already do--think Pakistan. I don't see realistically how we can stop the technology from spreading. Sooner or later some fanatic in Pakistan will wish to share it with his Muslim brothers, and earn a few petrodollars in the process.

Tis true, but Pakistan is checked by India and is not at present being run by a man who believes he has a green aura and is the 12th imam...or something.

I agree the technology is there, but that does not mean certain people have to have it.

BTW I grew up in a time when people thought a nuclear war between the Soviets and the US was inevitable. It seems they were wrong. The moral of the story being...there is no way of always knowing what will and won't happen.

You're right. I have no idea what will happen. I do however get strong intuitive flashes sometimes.
