Muir Woods and Sausalito

This is another photo dump from my trip to San Francisco. It covers a day trip to Muir Woods and Sausalito. You have to cross the Golden Gate bridge to get there. It was of course a bit fog bound when we crossed it.

Muir Woods is a National Monument,  named after James Muir the naturalist, that was created in 1908 by Teddy Roosevelt. It is a 300 acre stand of Redwood trees in a valley in the mountains of Marin County.

Here is a good view with a person walking on the path to give some scale as to the size of the Red Woods. They were huge trees. 

A little creek at the bottom of the valley ran through the stand of trees. On the ground it was all shade and moisture.

 

Sausalito is a trendy little town that spills down from the hills to the waterside. A lot of expensive boutiques and shops along the main street. 

Here are some fellows breaking down and art exhibit and loading it into a U-Haul. The pictures were pretty ridiculous, but I imagine they sold for a nice price.

A water fountain in a park. The wife and I bought some hamburgers and ate them at a bench next to the fountain.

Across the Bay was San Francisco. A lot of commercial shipping was moving in and out of the harbor. We took a ferry to get back to the city.
