I noticed that too, but I don't know what they are. I don't imagine that they're hollow, because they have to carry the wright of the train coming off of the bridge. Maybe they're put in to keep the earth from settling?

At about 3:10 they fill in the dirt on the sides of the new bridge. The fill appears to be large black boxes. What are they made of? Are they hollow?
