The Washington Note: "Washington intelligence, military and foreign policy circles are abuzz today with speculation that the President, yesterday or in recent days, sent a secret Executive Order to the Secretary of Defense and to the Director of the CIA to launch military operations against Syria and Iran.
The President may have started a new secret, informal war against Syria and Iran without the consent of Congress or any broad discussion with the country."
What's the Brit word? Gobsmacked?
me too.
ReplyDeleteI'd be SO proud of the admin if it did just that. Question--have the last two years been just the needed word to the world: "Well, we tried and tried to do this peacefully" --?
ReplyDeleteTake a look at Spengler's latest.
Buddy,
ReplyDeleteMohammed at ITM has a good piece up. I get a kick out of the Kurd's applause.
It was kind of the President to outline Maliki's assurances of support. I hope that the translation into Arabic was complete - just so the Iraqis aren't confused about what their PM is saying to the Americans.
There were two things in that ITM piece that should be noted:
ReplyDelete(1)The violence isn't necessarily sectarian--it's strangers to the neighborhoods that get killed, no matter whether sunni or shia.
(2)Sistani basically said the militias should be disarmed.
And, after reading Spengler's piece, I think many American's emphasis on 'sectarian' violence and 'civil war', including his, is a non-sequitor.
It's the violence itself that matters, not who is killing whom. People just get sick of the violence. Period.
