Self-replicating mechanical cells

The above two old-timey videos demonstrate Von Neumann machines in action. In the videos, the lecturer is using them to demonstrate the replication of complex molecules or simple cellular organisms. 

I quite like the straightforward and rather dry style of the presentation, although I wish he had given a closer look at the design of the machines he used.
