The first sound movie
This was filmed in 1894 or 1895. It was an experiment by William Dickson of the Kinetophone at Edison's laboratory. They couldn't get the film and wax recording to synchronize at the time.
The film was preserved, but it was thought the wax recording was lost. However, a mention of it appeared in the 1964 inventory at the Edison National Historic Site. The wax recording cylinder was retrieved in 1998 and modern recording techniques were used to finally synchronize the film and sound.
As desperate as their getting, I wonder if Hollywood has any plans to reboot this franchise?
