Mass rape in downtown Cairo

Police do nothing; the authorities and MSM turn a blind eye. Reports here and here.

You don't have to go to Cairo to find people truning a blind eye to rape.

Yes, social breakdown under the foces of resentful desire is a common enough thing. However, i have never before heard of an event such as this, in a large "modern" city: random (i.e. not ethnic, religious, or class-focussed) mass rape on the streets in full public view and the police and media do nothing. I know rape is common, especially in the Arab world, but I think this is a sign of almost complete social or state collapse; people should take note. Or am I wrong? Is this within the normal bounds of Arab or any other culture?

It is clearly a sign of continuing social collapse. Islam, wherever it is the predominant social model, is collapsing.

In some places the Islamists have used such events to their advantage: take the perpetrators and string them up in public. I think that was part of their initial appeal in Afghanistan. So it is a mixed bag. However, draconian measures don't seem to work long term. I suspect that the fundamental ideas and society are so outdated and degraded that even the most socially conservative sects become corrupted.

First of all , the headline is Very misleading, there was NEVER a mass rape in downtown Cairo, what happened was a group of teanagers and young men who "molested" three girls, (touched their breasts and behinds) they would hold their arms down while their friends got a handful. This happened on a very busy street, during celebrations. They guys were caught , and sentenced in court upto 3 years punishment.
