The early wasp

So I'm out having a smoke and what do I see lying on top of the new snow? Wasps! Three wasps lying there, not quite dead, but not moving either unless disturbed. Where did they come from? I have no idea, unless it is from an old nest in a nearby leafless bush, or more likely from a warm crook somewhere in the building wall. It sure hasn't been warm enough here to hatch out any sensible insects. A minor tragedy, to be sure, but at cosmic scales we are all little wasps. Let us hope we are luckier.
