Above is a video of two young ladies who while canoeing in Ireland encounter a huge flock, called a murmuration, of thousands of starlings.
Flocking behavior is caused by each individual bird turning with its neighbor. What's interesting about watching these starlings is that they seem to keep breaking into sub-flocks that ripple like sheets and then recombine.
