What is the purpose of this?

Above is a picture of a rather complex looking wooden mechanism. Its function is not readily apparent. To see what it is, and just what is for you'll have to watch the video after the jump.




It is the Walking Table by Wouter Scheublin. His literal interpretation of table legs is nicely playful. It sure would be a shock to lean against one of his tables at a party and have it start to walk away!
