Cross-Species Lesbian Sexual Harassment!

"Koko, you see my nipples all the time. You are probably bored with my nipples. You need to see new nipples."

Quite the blog entry title, eh?

How could I resist... the Age reports that the Gorilla Foundation has settled a lawsuit brought by two former animal handlers. The Gorilla Foundation is home to Koko, the lowland gorilla that was taught sign language some years ago. It seems Koko, who is female, has a "nipple fetish". The two women handlers claimed they were fired after they refused to bare their breasts for the ape. Terms of the settlement were not released.

Yeeesh, this is the start of the chat transcript from the Koko site:

KOKO:
Fine.

PENNY:
We're going to be on the phone with a lot of people who are going to ask us questions...

KOKO: Nipple. (Koko sometimes uses 'nipple' as a 'sounds like' for 'people.' [ed --suuure, we believe that])

PENNY: ...about you and about me. . . Lots of people.

KOKO: That red pink. (Indicating Penny's shirt.)

PENNY: That red pink. Yes, right!

KOKO: Hurry good.

What in the world have they been teaching that ape?

It will be interesting to see where new visitors come from. I wonder if we can figure out what the actual search term used could have been.

Rick,

Man, I never thought of that. In sitemeter, if they come from Google you can go back to the Google search.

Anybody care to test their free speech rights on this one?
.'Dykes on Bikes' OK'd for trademark status.

Oliver said the Patent and Trademark Office announced its decision on Monday after previously refusing to patent the name because ``dyke'' was traditionally considered a disparaging term for lesbians.

But Oliver said gay women have reclaimed the word and the connotation has changed.
The word ``is something of pride, not something derogatory,'' she said.

Group officials had not sought a trademark until someone associated with the organization attempted to use the name for commercial purposes, according to Oliver.

``They felt quite strongly that the mark should continue to be reserved'' for non-profit purposes, Oliver said, adding that the group has allowed other non-profit groups across the country to use the name for gay pride events.

``Nobody should be able to profit commercially from years and years of activism,'' she said

This is just bizarre.

I blame that big billboard for "The L Word" displayed across the street from Koko's cage.
