Always Good for Some Perspective

Our newest blogroll member, Maggie's Farm, had this picture showing yesterday. I had forgotten about it. There are some things it's good to look at repeatedly over the years.

I know that in America most people aren't really jealous of those who make it (certain leftish types excepted).

But to me personally it's even more than that with Gates. We were peers. Both equally excited about the possibilities that personal pc's would bring to every individual.

I hung out with people who looked like that and went to computer shows, endlessly fascinated by everything new. A lot of the guys I met wished out loud their wives were as interested in the stuff as I was.

He became a producer and I a consumer and I don't begrudge him a penny of his worth.

I still think of us as peers even though I never met the guy.

It's called the "Me Decade" and I think I've finally figured out why--it's short for "Don't Look at Me!"

Then there's that pic of the ocean, over there @ Maggie's Farm, that says, "Do, do look at me!"

Think of the parents of this gang. How many of them delivered lectures on a daily basis trying to influence them into getting a "real job"?

I think all in all it's a good thing such advice was not taken.

vnjagvet,
The parents took the aforementioned Dork in the Blue Shirt to a Shrink when he was a teen.
Luckily the Shrink just told him to take it easy, he had already won with his parents.
...now if only he had married Syl instead of Melinda...
I knew a Coach for the Blazers that said one on one Paul was just an easy going guy.

"I think all in all it's a good thing such advice was not taken."
Had Gates taken the entire indoctrination program at Boston, who knows what mundane dreams he might have dreamt.
Ballmer on the other hand, was unfazed and untameable.
Has everyone seen a video of one of his rants around the stage?

...and now the Political Morons at Google have half the MS Market Cap in ~7 years!!!

vivekg writes "BBC has published an article featuring the highlights of technological social change from around the world for this year.
It is amazing to find out how technology is being used in very different ways for very different communities. Victims of the Tsunami disaster, Virtual Wallets in Japan, and the Indian government, bringing technology to rural areas, all have been touched by the positive use of technology. Hope to see more good community-based collaboration in 2006."

rogera,
Many will never understand how much more like Pioneers Bill and Paul were compared to the Google Billionaires.
Today it's what's happening.
Bill and Paul built it and made it happen.

LOL

I have yet to successfully USE a cash machine. I couldn't figure it out the first time, shrugged, and walked away. Never tried again.

I don't pump my own gas, either. :)

But I can dance.

Sigh

Syl said...

er, I used to dance.

Everything changed when I hit fifty.

Sigh. Again.

Syl,
At the checkout, I just act like a helpless old man (I'm really quite good at it.) and likely as not the cute young thing will do it for me.
All I can do is watch.
And as Chauncey says...
