Our newest blogroll member, Maggie's Farm, had this picture showing yesterday. I had forgotten about it. There are some things it's good to look at repeatedly over the years.
I know that in America most people aren't really jealous of those who make it (certain leftish types excepted).
But to me personally it's even more than that with Gates. We were peers. Both equally excited about the possibilities that personal pc's would bring to every individual.
I hung out with people who looked like that and went to computer shows, endlessly fascinated by everything new. A lot of the guys I met wished out loud their wives were as interested in the stuff as I was.
He became a producer and I a consumer and I don't begrudge him a penny of his worth.
I still think of us as peers even though I never met the guy.

"I think all in all it's a good thing such advice was not taken." Had Gates taken the entire indoctrination program at Boston, who knows what mundane dreams he might have dreamt. Ballmer on the other hand, was unfazed and untameable. Has everyone seen a video of one of his rants around the stage?

Hope to see more good community-based collaboration in 2006."

It's called the "Me Decade" and I think I've finally figured out why--it's short for "Don't Look at Me!"
Then there's that pic of the ocean, over there @ Maggie's Farm, that says, "Do, do look at me!"
Think of the parents of this gang. How many of them delivered lectures on a daily basis trying to influence them into getting a "real job"?
I think all in all it's a good thing such advice was not taken.

I always thought the Blazers ought to play in dark-blue serge sports jackets.
I thought they shoulda played with their hair on fire.
rogera,
Many will never understand how much more like Pioneers Bill and Paul were compared to the Google Billionaires.
Today it's what's happening.
Bill and Paul built it and made it happen.

Everything changed when I hit fifty.
