I have never believed that people believe in democracy. Everyone believes in having his or her own way. That's a given. It's the basis of all politics; I have to relinquish some of what I want in order to achieve some of what I want.
But when religion enters politics we have a whole different kettle of fish. If my opponents are not just mistaken but evil, then it is my moral duty to oppose them at all levels and all times. If I have to break the democratic rules to achieve that, well, we all know that to make an omelette we have to break a few eggs.
