"The Only Exit Strategy is Victory"

"It appears that with the deadline for exile come and gone, Saddam Hussein has chosen to make military force the ultimate weapons inspections enforcement mechanism. If so, the only exit strategy is victory, this is our common mission and the world’s cause. We're in this together. We want to complete the mission while safeguarding our troops, avoiding innocent civilian casualties, disarming Saddam Hussein and engaging the community of nations to rebuild Iraq." — 20 March 2003, follow the link to find out who said it.

Seneca,

Of course, that was then, and this is now.

;-)

One has to be sensitive to the winds that blow, does one not?

One thing you can say about Kerry (and it's not an especially good thing) is that he was consistent in his opposition to the Vietnam War, which began when he was president of the Yale Political Union (IIRC, when he was a senior and I was a freshman).

And he is now consistent in his efforts to somehow make this war another episode of that one.

What must it be like to never have an original idea, to go through one's entire adult life living and reenacting the single idea that illuminated one's youth?

It's really not too bad. The important thing is to have the right as a youth.

Do Democrats really think they can get away with rewriting history and evading responsibility for their words and actions?

seems so.

Besides if they can convince Americans that the greatest military in the world is being defeated by a bunch of religious fanatics with car bombs, they will have accomplised their main goal.

Let's see, we have been in Iraq for 33 months. We have had 2050 soldiers die there. About 1600 of them have been lost in battle.

We have about 150,000 troops total in the field. So if we stay in Iraq for another 227 years the terrorists might actually manage to destroy our military, if we fail to reinforce.

In the last 33 months, the Iraqis have held elections and written a constitution as well as begun rebuilding their country's infrastructure.

They are opening schools, electing local governments and opening newspapers and TV stations and are about to have another election in a few weeks.

But all is lost and we are losing and there is no hope.

If all it takes to beat the US and destroy Iraq is a thousand suicide bombers then the world really is in trouble. We are all lost.

The Democrats are making headway convincing the public that the real way to guage success or failure in Iraq is not to look at the progress in Iraq but to look at casualty numbers. That is all a lot of people see, and of course the elections tend to mean an uptake in those numbers.

This in turn lets our enemy know how we can and will be beaten. It is a clear signal to them: kill our troops and we will run away.

Those of us who have never had an original idea can still do quite well simply by being careful in the ideas we steal.
