Power Line: "Rasmussen lists the seats now held by Santorum and Chafee as probable Democrat pick-ups; Chafee would be no loss."
Yes, John, Chaffee would be a loss. Chaffee caucuses with the Republicans. Losing Chaffee is one more toward making Harry Reid the Majority Leader, and Pat Leahy Chairman of the Judiciary Committee. Then you can, for example, kiss any more Bush nominations for judgeships good bye.
Dammit, people, focus!
Update: I'm elevating a comment by Terrye to the main post:
It really is as simple as that.
I wonder how powerline feel about the last two years of Bush's term in office being spent neck deep in impeachment hearings and investigationse etc.

Barone says Santorum may well pull it off. I think he will be reelected.

Right you are. It is all about the numbers and control of the Senate.
The Legislative Agenda is secondary.
We must take the votes where we get them. Chaffee at least is not a Jeffords.

Really some o fthese bloggers are just so narrow minded. If Condi does not do their bidding, if Bush is not well trained well then to hell with them.
And then of course will come the bitching and moaning when they find out that the problem is not the moderate Republicans, it is the Democrats. Morons.
Well it might be the Hamdan ruling gives some doubt, but Roberts will not be recused this time.
I think Congress may move before then to make it safe from the courts. At least they keep promising.
One thing about it, there is more precedent for this than there is for the Hamdan case. Even FISA states the president has the inherent right to do this kind of surveillance.
Spot on.
This purity business is a disease of both parties. But when push came to shove in 2004, all the Dems stuck together.
The Reps should be so smart.
"But when push came to shove in 2004, all the Dems stuck together."
And lost accross the board.
StY, Of course you are right and PowerLine is just deranged on this one. Chafee is the best that a Conservative could hope to elect in Rhode Island.
Being a pure minority and barking in the wilderness is very ineffective. Not only is your agenda negated but the enactments go in the other direction.
And the young recruits that would be brought into government would be the liberal leaders of the future. Just look at all the Clintonistas that now have been elected in their own right: Governor Richardson in New Mexico, DCCC Chair and Congressman Rahm Emanuel, etc.
