Ned Lamont is Karl Rove's dream come true.

Martin Peretz doesn't write many editorials for the Wall Street Journal. Very few editors of The New Republic ever have. I suppose his 'dream' line might have been sufficient to win the placement but all in all his apologia for Lieberman is tepid at best.

As to the veracity of the 'dream' line, it will only be true if Lieberman stays in the race as an independent after losing the primary. Otherwise, Lamont is just another Corzine or Dayton with a louder cheering section. I don't think that Lieberman has the stomach for a run as an independent. I don't doubt that he would win but in doing so he will dash Democrat hopes of sweeping the three Republican Representatives from Connecticut out of office.

There is also the possibility that the polls will be disproven by tomorrows real polling and that this WSJ editorial will have made the difference, after all, every major paper in Connecticut has endorsed Lieberman - how can he lose?

I hope you're right.

In truth I will not count Joe out just yet. And I am not so sure he won't run as an Independent. I think there are Democrats like Lieberman who are troubled by what they see as a dangerous trend in the party. He might take matters in his own hands.

That was a good oped Peretz wrote.

I phoned my mom in CT. She almost didn't answer the phone because it's been ringing constantly because of activists calling about the election.

She's going to try to vote tomorrow, but needs help getting there. She's 82 and not in the best of shape.

She's a lifelong Dem, hates Bush, hates the war, but is planning to vote for Lieberman. She says that the only thing she knows about Lamont is that he is anti-war. Thus she doesn't feel safe voting for him.

Really, I do feel deeply for those Democrats like Martin Peretz who are completely unable to see that they are no longer welcome in the Democratic party. It's not your father's Democratic party. It's pretty much the party of spoiled surfer boys from California who, like dude, just don't want to have to think about that Iraq mess. And Bush is, like, sooo uncool.
