The Tampa Tribune reports that former University of South Florida professor Sami Al-Arian has agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy to provide support to a terrorist organization under a deal with the government in which Al-Arian will be deported and the rest of the charges he faces will be dropped.
On December 6, 2005 he was acquitted on 8 of 17 counts, while the jury deadlocked on the remaining 9 charges involving his ties to Islamist groups on the U.S. list of terrorist organizations, including the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
