Proportionality

Dr. Krauthammer is seeing patients today.
Israeli innocents must die in order for Israel to be terrorized. But Lebanese innocents must also die in order for Israel to be demonized, which is why Hezbollah hides its fighters, its rockets, its launchers, its entire infrastructure among civilians. Creating human shields is a war crime. It is also a Hezbollah specialty.
Using ambulances as troop transports is a war crime.

Using hospitals as military command and control centers is a war crime.

Using mosques as arms depots is a war crime.

Killing war criminals and their supporters is a favor to humanity.

How can anyone ignore this kind of thing? It is becomins so obvious, the tactics are outrageous...how is it that people ignore it?

Terrye,

It isn't being ignored. It is the willful twisting of the obvious to support the twisted visions of twisted minds.

Tis true, but how long can that go on? If enough people complain about it long enough and loud enough perhaps it will be more difficult to keep the lies going.

These people are simply celebrating their diversity.

These valid arguments won't help. The world sees innocent people being hurt and reacts to that.

Of course, that's the point of terrorists using civilians as shields.

We, I'm afraid, have to go much further with our arguments than this. Muslims are victims of their extremists and we must find a way for the muslim world to see that.

Our battle for hearts and minds is not to make the muslim world like America. We shouldn't even care about that. The battle is to make those hearts and minds see what their own extremists are doing to them!

And, unfortunately, sometimes only violence, suffering, and death will wake them up.

It happened in Iraq. The violence there now is something else entirely from just a few months ago though it is still muslim against muslim.

There are more muslims dying at the hands of other muslims than through any action of a non-muslim.

They've just got to wake up before they destroy themselves...and take the rest of us with them. The Jews are simply the scapegoat and represent the muslim world's inability to look at itself.

The Lebanese hesitated and gave up on disarming Hezbollah. They were afraid of civil war. Well, they got the war anyway. How much suffering do they have to go through before those still supporting Hezbollah get a clue as to how much they've been used.

I hope that many Muslims could understand the harm the extremists do to them, but I have more doubts than I used to. The Shia/Sunni split has been quite bloody, long before 2003. This has been brewing for a long time, but the Cold War relegated it to the back burner, even in the Muslim world to some degree. With the fall of the Berlin Wall, the old restraints have come off. There is no playing the Soviets off against the US, and surely the Muslim world understood that the Soviets would be completely ruthless and brutal if they believed it gained them something.

Although the Middle East muslims "unite" against the Jews of Israel, the Shia and Sunni would commence with other agendas if they eliminated Israel. In many ways we are in a race against time. We have to move fast, but centuries old religious ideologies do not change quickly.

Was the Iraq-Iran war sectarian or ethnic? I see the ME self-identification hierarchy as being clan-tribe-ethnicity-sect-nationality, with nationality carrying very little weight. That makes the 'change' aspect even more difficult.

Using weapons which you cannot properly aim in heavily populated areas is also a war crime. Or should be.

I just heard Egelund the UN rep there saying that Hezbullah was cowardly for blending in and attacking from civilian areas. OTOH that clown said the Israeli response was "disproportionate" because more children were killed than Hezbollah forces. UGH

Peter UK said...

cf,
"disproportionate" is a new rhetorical tool to ensure Israel loses, that Hezbollah creates that disproportionality by deliberately deploying fighters amongst civilians would not register.

CF said...

And then there's the fact that the civilian casualty figures seem to be Hezbollah's, accepted and megaphoned by an uncritical press.

The Proportionalistas seem to be of the same genus as the "Better Red than Dead" brigade which flourished some years back.Nothing like a sound bite masquerading as wisdom to stir the leftoids blood.
In the interests of proportionality, shouldn't all Hezbollah fighters be bar coded so that fairness can be ensured?
