IDF: Qana building fell hours after strike - News from Israel, Ynetnews: "An IDF investigation has found that the building in Qana struck by the Air Force fell around eight hours after being hit by the IDF.

'The attack on the structure in the Qana village took place between midnight and one in the morning. The gap between the timing of the collapse of the building and the time of the strike on it is unclear,' Brigadier General Amir Eshel, Head of the Air Force Headquarters told journalists at the Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv, following the incidents at Qana."

Update: I've made a lot of (completely justified) fun at the expense of the Powerline guys, but I think John's got it just right with this point:

What seems odd about this is that the banner was unfurled within hours after the Qana attack took place. The building where the civilians died was bombed on Sunday morning, and the demonstration took place during daylight hours, later the same day. I have no idea what kind of facility it takes to produce a 30-foot-high banner like this one. It is obviously professionally done. It would be interesting to know where this banner was produced; who designed and paid for it; and how its production was expedited so that it was ready for use, on the street, within hours after the event being protested. For example, was the image of Rice produced in advance, awaiting a pretext for its use, with only the script added at the last minute? I've often been curious about the logistics of pro-terrorist demonstrations, and this seems like an especially curious example.

I know jhust what you mean. On some things they drive me crazy, but they might be on to something here.

It is quite possible that this was just a terrible mistake on the part of the Israelis, but then again it might be that Hezbeklah killed a bunch of Lebanese and blamed it on the Jews in order to get sympathy and a cease fire.

Ever notice how the people in places like the Sudan can die like flies and the UN could care less, but by God if those nice terrorists get shot at by the big bad Jews Kofi gets all outraged.

If this was the other way round ie: the Jews unfurling a professionally made banner with some Islamic guy dripping blood from his mouth, do you think the press would be asking questions?

My thoughts exactly

Also, it looks like this will end the war. We are too wussy to take a few deaths. In WWII we killed millions of 'innocent' civilians in Germany, Japan and tens of thousands in France, Italy, the low countries as well as Burma and China!

Does this mean we were unjustified in WWII?

It is odd that that if, as the Israelis claim that the building did not collapse some eight hours after the bombing, that there were indeed two strikes, yet the building was not evacuated. This seems to run counter to all recent experience.

A Free Man--

All right-thinking people know that we were completely unjustified in WWII, in the Korean War, in WWI, in the Spanish-American War, and in fact in pretty much everything we've ever done. We have no right to exist. We should have rolled over and allowed the Germans and the Japanese to slaughter us by the millions. Since we didn't we should certainly atone for that crime by rolling over and allowing the Muslims to slaughter us by the millions.

But no, this won't end the war, because the Muslim sharks have tasted blood now. There isn't going to be any turning back. We can retreat for a while, but they will bring the war to us. As Churchill said, we can choose between war and dishonor, we are choosing dishonor, and we will get both war and dishonor as a result.
