Republican says US readying crackdown on leaks | Reuters.com: "WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Bush administration is preparing a crackdown on intelligence leaks to the media and will try to pursue prosecutions in some recent cases, the chairman of the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee on Tuesday.
Michigan Republican Rep. Peter Hoekstra also suggested some unauthorized leaks could have been deliberate attempts to help al Qaeda.
'More frequently than what we would like, we find out that the intelligence community has been penetrated, not necessarily by al Qaeda, but by other nations or organizations,' he said.
'I don't have any evidence. But from my perspective, when you have information that is leaked that is clearly helpful to our enemy, you cannot discount that possibility,' he added."

Now, we will see the NY Times and others go after Hoekstra. The implication that Bush broke the law was given wide play, and Hoekstra was the new darling for a day. Now that he suggests we can't discount infiltration when leaks help the enemy...well, let's see what kind of press he gets. Will some "dirt" come out on him?

Ah, just what the Democrats need going into the fall elections: a mud slinging fest where the media ancien can demonstrate once more how far removed they are from everyday people.
Rocky and Durbin have been lying very low. Hoekstra may be blowing hot air but if Gonzales is going to make a move he needs to do it soon. Otherwise the dead media will be screaming about October Surprise right through the election.
Cold Cash Jefferson should be indicted soon as well. With just a little luck they'll nail Loretta Sanchez at the same time.
It's amazing that the Republican Culture of Corruption has so many Democrat victims.
Since virtually ever retired DoS and CIA official in one way or another goes on the Saudi teat upon retirement (Wilson did, too) and many military do as well, he is not so far from the mark.
