I think of two octapus anecdotes, neither of which will seem off-topic here:
Jerzy Kozinski writes of one stranded on a beach. The octapus bites off its suckers and slowly commits suicide.
The second is that the octapus has evolved to a state of octapus perfection, there being nothing more it can do to improve, thereby comdnmning itself to extinction because there's no hope of adapting further.
Deeper than the ocean, bluer than the sea. Please make your cheques out to me personally, thank you.
