I went to the Fort MacArthur Museum many, many times when I was living in SoCal. My Amateur Radio club was involved with the museum, and we used the Upper Reservation of Fort Mac as our Amateur Radio Field Day site.

Great place, and I highly recommend seeing it if you visit SoCal.

Old forts are always interesting. Growing up where I lived was an abandoned Nike Air Defense missile site. It was a spooky reminder that I lived near a Cold war target.

I grew up in the Chicago area, and when I's go into the city with my Dad, we'd always drive by Argonne National Laboratory. There was a Nike base nearby and the always had a missile up on display, just sitting there on the launcher pointed up at the sky, waiting for The Call.

Spooky, indeed...
