Old forts

Click and image to enlarge

A fort is a spot occupied permanently, or at least for a long time, by military forces. So, a modern military base, even if only surrounded by a chain link fence, is by definition a fort. However, in our imaginations when we think of forts, we think of forts from the past. We picture palisades, cannons by the ready and troops lining the walls. Here are some paintings and drawings of those older style of forts both as they were or in ruins.

Yea, that fort on the top oof that huge hill is pretty amazing. I feel sorry for the oafs and serf who had to haul the building material up there.

I dunno, government job, probably make a career out of hauling rocks to the top of the hill. Compared to the peasants in the fields it might have been a pretty good gig.

If only to go back in time when they were operating

That could be. I read an article once where they had excavated an ancient worker's village around the pyramids and translated for scrolls and it seemed like it might have been the Egyptian sweet life.
