Chowing down in Imperial Rome

This video discusses meals in ancient Rome. The food they ate is also explained. Also, most Romans didn't have a means for cooking food at home, so they used street vendors to get their meals. Herculaneum and Pompeii were both buried in volcanic ash, so we have well preserved examples of the infrastructure to support their daily dining.

  

A Roman mint

This video discusses a Roman mint from Trajan's reign. It discusses how the coins were minted and gives the organization of the mint's workers. I wondered how it was guarded. No word on that in the video, which would be handy info to have in case I wanted to build a time machine and go back to do an Ocean's 11 style heist.

The fumes of yesterday's debauch

The above video is about garum, an ancient Roman fish sauce that was a popular condiment. It is an entertaining and informative video by Max Miller of TastingHistory. In it, along with making a batch of garum, he talks about its history and reputation in ancient Rome.

In the below video he uses garum to make steamed mussels using a recipe from Apicius De Re Coquinaria (English translation), a 4th Century Roman cookbook.
