Old Motor magazine covers

Motor is a technical journal that caters to gas station owners, automobile repair shops, parts suppliers, and dealers. It was first published in 1903 and is still active, although it has moved from print to digital media.

These covers are from 1904 through the 1940s. When the magazine started the covers featured a lot of women. However, they moved on to having humorous covers featuring visual jokes. Of course, during WWII they switched to patriotism and War Bond drives.

These examples are from MagazineArt, there are more at that link.

Changli - the world's cheapest new car

Jalopnik is a YouTuber who makes videos about cars and trucks. He got the idea to buy the cheapest new car he could find. He ended up buying the Changli off of Alibaba. It cost $1200 with the batteries. Above he unboxes it. Then below he takes it for a test drive and shows us some details about the car.

It's really more of a glorified golf cart than a car, but it does have a number of car-like features. I do wonder how long it will be before the thing falls apart.

Soviet motorhead nostalgia

These are pictures and those after the jump, are via Vintage Everyday's article 50 Vintage Pics Show Cars of the Soviet Union From Between the 1950s and ’70s. There are many more pictures at the link.

I chose ones that were in color and appeared to be pictures used in advertisements. The themes are familiar, although oddly different all the same: shiny cars, upscale locales, pretty girls and destinations the cars will take you to.

An old-timey carwash

Click any image to enlarge
The Auto Wash Bowl  was an early approach to commercially washing cars. Because so many roads back then were unpaved, dirt and mud would get caked on auto undercarriages. The Auto Wash Bowl was invented to solve that problem; cars would drive in and circle it for a few minutes until their bottom was cleaned. They would then exit to an area where the rest of the car was washed.

They lasted from 1921 to the early 1930s when they were replaced by more modern automatic car washes. From the Vintage Everyday article The Auto Wash Bowl in Chicago, ca. 1920s which has more pictures and information about them.
