Proportionality

Dr. Krauthammer is seeing patients today.
Israeli innocents must die in order for Israel to be terrorized. But Lebanese innocents must also die in order for Israel to be demonized, which is why Hezbollah hides its fighters, its rockets, its launchers, its entire infrastructure among civilians. Creating human shields is a war crime. It is also a Hezbollah specialty.
Using ambulances as troop transports is a war crime.

Using hospitals as military command and control centers is a war crime.

Using mosques as arms depots is a war crime.

Killing war criminals and their supporters is a favor to humanity.

How can anyone ignore this kind of thing? It is becomins so obvious, the tactics are outrageous...how is it that people ignore it?

Tis true, but how long can that go on? If enough people complain about it long enough and loud enough perhaps it will be more difficult to keep the lies going.

I hope that many Muslims could understand the harm the extremists do to them, but I have more doubts than I used to. The Shia/Sunni split has been quite bloody, long before 2003. This has been brewing for a long time, but the Cold War relegated it to the back burner, even in the Muslim world to some degree. With the fall of the Berlin Wall, the old restraints have come off. There is no playing the Soviets off against the US, and surely the Muslim world understood that the Soviets would be completely ruthless and brutal if they believed it gained them something.

Although the Middle East muslims "unite" against the Jews of Israel, the Shia and Sunni would commence with other agendas if they eliminated Israel. In many ways we are in a race against time. We have to move fast, but centuries old religious ideologies do not change quickly.

Was the Iraq-Iran war sectarian or ethnic? I see the ME self-identification hierarchy as being clan-tribe-ethnicity-sect-nationality, with nationality carrying very little weight. That makes the 'change' aspect even more difficult.

Using weapons which you cannot properly aim in heavily populated areas is also a war crime. Or should be.

And then there's the fact that the civilian casualty figures seem to be Hezbollah's, accepted and megaphoned by an uncritical press.
